Is Venom in Andrew Garfield?

When it comes to the Spider-Man franchise, one of the most iconic villains is Venom. With his menacing appearance and symbiotic powers, Venom has become a fan favorite character. But the question remains, was Venom featured in the Andrew Garfield series of Spider-Man movies?

The Andrew Garfield Spider-Man Series

Andrew Garfield portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in two movies: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (2012) and its sequel ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ (2014). These films were a reboot of the franchise following Tobey Maguire’s portrayal in Sam Raimi’s trilogy.

Venom’s Absence

Despite being a significant character in the Spider-Man comics, Venom did not make an appearance in either of the Andrew Garfield movies. The primary focus of these films was on different villains such as The Lizard (Dr. Curt Connors) and Electro (Max Dillon).

It is important to note that Venom is a complex character with his own unique backstory. In the comics, Eddie Brock becomes Venom after bonding with an alien symbiote. This storyline was not explored in the Andrew Garfield movies.

The Sony/Marvel Deal

In 2015, Sony Pictures Entertainment reached an agreement with Marvel Studios to allow Spider-Man to be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This deal meant that a new version of Spider-Man would be introduced as part of MCU’s continuity.

With this new partnership, Tom Holland became the latest actor to portray Peter Parker/Spider-Man starting with ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (2016). This also opened up opportunities for other characters from Spider-Man’s universe to be introduced, including Venom.

Venom’s Standalone Movie

In 2018, Sony released a standalone movie titled ‘Venom,’ featuring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom. This film was not connected to the MCU but existed within its own separate universe.

The success of ‘Venom’ prompted Sony to continue exploring this universe, resulting in the sequel ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ (2021) and plans for future films.

While Venom did not appear in the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies, the character has found success in his own film series. With the Sony/Marvel deal allowing for more integration between Spider-Man’s universe and the MCU, it remains to be seen if we will see Venom crossing paths with Tom Holland’s version of Spider-Man in the future.
